The Nation reports that the victims were returning from a night club in convoy when one of the drivers lost control of his car. A witness said five persons comprising three men and two women were in the car when the crash occurred. The witness said the survivor, a woman is close to death in the hospital with a broken leg.
It was gathered that the three cars were on top speed from Dugbe to Sango when a blue Toyota Corola, marked Lagos EKD 470BJ, lost control while attempting to overtake the other cars at 5.15am. The driver of the car lost control and collided with a concrete wall in the middle of the road.
Four of the victims, a woman and the three men died on the spot. A source revealed that some bottles of alcoholic wine were recovered from the car, adding that it took the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officials, policemen and other sympathisers over an hour before the bodies could be retrieved from the damaged car.
The state’s FRSC spokesman, Oluwaseun Onijala, confirmed the accident, saying three male adults died. He said the accident happened at about 2.am. The commission’s spokesperson said preliminary investigations have shown that the accident was caused by over speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile, four people were confirmed dead while four others were injured after they were crushed by an out-of-control cement truck in Usman, Sokoto state. Usman Khaliel, the rescue officer of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Sokoto state command said the accident happened at More Junction near Federal Science College at about 11.40pm.
